Man United will lose €51m star on free transfer this summer.

As reported by Football Insider, Manchester United are set to let their star, Raphael Varane walk away on a free transfer this summer. The Frenchman weighs heavy on the Red Devils’ wage bill and the club is not willing to break the bank anymore.

After the Red Devils opted against extending Varane’s contract by one year, fresh talks over a new deal were set to take place. However, there have been no conversations on that end. All signs currently point towards an impending exit for the €51m star.

Man United are expected to let the Frenchman walk away on a free transfer. Since his contract is close to expiring, Varane is currently free to talk to other teams. The French defender is now 30 years old, so United will likely not be recovering their money.

This season has been a confusing one for the ex-Real Madrid star. Varane has been dealing with some injuries which have contributed to his inconsistency. The 30-year-old has missed seven games due to injury and has made a total of 30 appearances this season.

He was the star for Man United back when they faced Liverpool in December. However, that was the last decent game that he played. Ever since then Varane’s contributions have taken a hit and he doesn’t look as sharp as before.

With the Frenchman out of the picture, the Red Devils will have enough space on their wage bill to go after new defenders. One, Giorgio Scalvini, and Juventus star, Bremer have constantly been linked to the club.
