David de Gea feels Manchester United “deserved” to drop points in draw to Crystal Palace

Manchester United star David de Gea feels the Red Devils “deserved” to drop points in the draw to Crystal Palace in the Premier League.

The Old Trafford side visited Selhurst Park on Wednesday (18 January). We took the lead in the first half through Bruno Fernandes. However, Michael Olise’s stunning free-kick in stoppage time led to the two teams sharing the spoils.

Speaking to MUTV (h/t Manchester Evening News) after the 1-1 draw, De Gea expressed his disappointment. However, the Spaniard saw it coming after United’s drab second-half display.

“Especially since we conceded in 90 minutes, it was tough to take. The second half, we didn’t play well. In the first half, we did and created a lot of chances, we scored a great goal but we lost control after half-time.

“But this is the Premier League, when the teams are down, they put more players in front, press higher and then they create chances. We deserved it because we didn’t play well in the second half. I think we could have conceded before [the goal].”

The 32-year-old made some great saves during the match. He tipped a shot from Odsonne Edouard onto the crossbar at the 40th-minute mark. Subsequently, the Red Devils broke the deadlock just before half-time.

After the break, Patrick Vieira’s team took the game to us. We seemingly stepped our foot off the gas as the Eagles created decent chances.

The former Atletico Madrid star was forced into action on a number of occasions. He pulled off a good save to deny Marc Guehi from scoring a header.

However, just before the end of the match, Palace won a free-kick. Olise beat De Gea from about 25 yards out. The Spaniard could not have done much about the striker as it hit the underside of the crossbar.

Casemiro had a chance to win the game for United in the dying minutes. However, the Brazilian was unable to make the most of the opportunity.

At the end of the day, the Old Trafford side should have buried the game long before. A one-goal lead is fragile and the game is not over until the final whistle. However, while the result was a setback, we have the chance to bounce back with Arsenal our next opponents in the PL.
