Manchester United ‘confident’ of tying down England international Marcus Rashford to new contract
Manchester United are confident of keeping hold of and tying down England international Marcus Rashford to a new contract, according to Manchester Evening News.
The Red Devils are still in discussions with the 25-year-old over new terms. Currently, the forward receives a £200,000 a week salary. But the Old Trafford side are not keen on breaking the £300,000 barrier.
United want to avoid paying a single player more than the others. At the moment, Brazil international Casemiro, who signed for the club from Real Madrid in the previous transfer window, has a £300,000 weekly salary.
The Red Devils recently triggered the one-year extension option in Rashford’s deal. The 25-year-old is now contracted to the club until the end of the 2023/24 season.
However, the Old Trafford side are keen to secure the England international’s future, considering Paris Saint-Germain’s interest in him. The forward’s brother and agent, Dwaine Maynard, met with the Parisians in the summer of 2022.
But United are comfortable with Rashford’s current situation and an agreement over a new deal is not expected to be imminent. The 25-year-old is keen on putting pen to paper in Manchester.
The England international has been in fine form this season for the Red Devils. He is the club’s leading goalscorer in the current campaign, with 16 goals in 26 appearances in all competitions.
Rashford has stepped up to the plate when the Old Trafford side needed him the most. With Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure and Anthony Martial’s injury issues, the England international is the only established forward in the squad.
