Aston Villa secure signing of Manchester United target Jhon Duran from MLS outfit Chicago Fire
Premier League outfit Aston Villa have secured the signing of Manchester United target Jhon Duran from Chicago Fire in the ongoing transfer window, according to Metro.
The Villans have paid £14 million to the Major League Soccer outfit to land the 19-year-old’s signature. Apart from the Red Devils, Chelsea and Liverpool were also linked with him.
However, the Colombian has decided to join the Lions instead. It is not known how strong the Old Trafford side’s interest in the youngster was.
Duran moved to Chicago from Colombian outfit Envigado. For the Soldier Field side, the youngster found the back of the net eight times and provided five assists in 28 appearances in all competitions.
As a result, the centre-forward was one of the highly-rated prospects in America. But Unai Emery’s team have acquired his services. The 19-year-old will have to compete with the likes of Danny Ings and Ollie Watkins up front.
Villa have made a mark in recent weeks under the Spanish manager. Steven Gerrard was struggling at the Birmingham-based club at the start of the season. However, the former Villarreal and Sevilla head coach has turned things around.
Erik ten Hag looked low on options after the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo just before the start of the 2022 World Cup. Anthony Martial has also had fitness issues in the current campaign.
However, we have now got Wout Weghorst on loan from Burnley for the rest of the season. Marcus Rashford has also been decent playing as a number nine under the Dutch manager.
