Ipswich Town ‘interested’ in loan move for Manchester United youngster Charlie McNeill
League One outfit Ipswich Town are ‘interested’ in signing Manchester United star Charlie McNeill on loan for the rest of the season in the ongoing transfer window, according to Football League World (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Red Devils are open to letting the youngster leave on a temporary move in January. However, Championship outfit Preston North End are also looking to acquire the 19-year-old’s services.
McNeill has mostly played for the Old Trafford side’s youth team over the years. The striker is one of the most promising talents currently on our books.
In the current campaign, the 19-year-old was given his first team debut in the Europa League. Against Real Sociedad in the group stage fixture, where we lost 1-0, the English national came on as a substitute for Tyrell Malacia in the 83rd minute.
However, he has not been featured for the team since then. McNeill has only made the matchday squad once since then, in the second UEL group match against Sheriff Tiraspol.
Last season, the English national was at Sheffield Wednesday on a work experience loan. While he trained with the League One outfit’s senior side, the forward was not allowed to play any games for them.
United evidently have a dearth of centre-forwards at the moment. Cristiano Ronaldo’s exit has dwindled Erik ten Hag’s option in the number nine position.
Anthony Martial is the only senior natural striker in the team at the moment. Unfortunately, the France international has had to be managed in the right way in recent fixtures after suffering injuries early on in the campaign.

However, McNeill does not seem to be in the gaffer’s plans as of yet. Thus, a loan would be a wise option for the youngster. At Ipswich, the 19-year-old will also have a former coach of the Old Trafford side, Kieran McKenna, as the manager.
