Besiktas deny Wout Weghorst agreement as “untrue” amidst Manchester United links

Turkish outfit Besiktas have denied suggestions that Wout Weghorst will leave the club amidst links to Manchester United. The Holland international is being eyed by the Red Devils.

However, the 30-year-old is currently on loan at the Super Lig side from Championship outfit Burnley. Thus, the Red Devils need to offer compensation to the Black Eagles to cut short the forward’s temporary move since Vincent Kompany’s team do not have a recall clause.

To that end, the Manchester-based club have made an offer to the Clarets, which has been passed on to Besiktas. But the Turkish outfit have rejected our proposal. The Vodafone Park side are keen on keeping the striker for the rest of the campaign.

Besiktas released a statement via Manchester Evening News in which they denied the existence of a clause in Weghorst’s contract to let him leave if a Premier League club made an offer.

“The claim that there is an exit clause in our football player’s contract, stating that his contract can be terminated with a compensation of 2.5 million Euros in case of an offer from the Premier League, is fictitious.

“However, the news that the player in question will leave the team on Tuesday is completely untrue. The initiative regarding Wout Weghorst belongs entirely to Beşiktaş. If there is a development on this issue, the information will be shared.”

The Holland international is a good target man with impressive aerial abilities. He joined Burnley in the inter window of 2022 from Wolfsburg.

At the Bundesliga outfit, the 30-year-old built a reputation of being a prolific goalscorer. In 144 appearances in all competitions for the Wolves, the forward found the back of the net 70 times.

However, Weghorst’s stint in the English top flight was a bit underwhelming. But he was in a side that eventually got relegated. The Holland international did give fans a memorable moment at the 2022 World Cup when he changed the game against Argentina in the quarter-finals as a substitute.

With Anthony Martial the only natural striker in the team, we evidently need to add support for him. A deal looks complicated at the moment, considering Besiktas’ stance.

It does not make sense for the Super Lig side to part ways with their first-team regular star. But hopefully, United will be able to come to an agreement with the Turkish outfit soon.
