Official: Manchester United confirm stance on Marcel Sabitzer and Wout Weghorst

Manchester United have confirmed that Wout Weghorst and Marcel Sabitzer will return to their respective clubs this summer.

The two players were signed on loan deals but haven’t done enough to earn a permanent move at Old Trafford. Weghorst arrived in January from Burnley when his loan spell at Besiktas was cut short.

There was no option or obligation to buy the Netherlands from the Clarets. Sabitzer, meanwhile, joined us from Bayern Munich in the winter on deadline day as we searched to replace the injured Christian Eriksen.

There wasn’t any option to buy the 29-year-old Austria international as well. As it stands, the two players will leave Manchester United and re-join their parent clubs. An official statement from Man United reads:

“In terms of incoming loans at United, Marcel Sabitzer and Wout Weghorst are due to return to Bayern Munich and Burnley, respectively. Both made telling contributions to our Carabao Cup success and clinching a top-three place in the Premier League, with Weghorst supplying the assist for Marcus Rashford’s goal in the final win over Newcastle United at Wembley.

“Sabitzer scored twice in the home Europa League tie with Sevilla, after opening his account in the Emirates FA Cup comeback against Fulham, but missed the run-in due to a knee problem.”

Pretty self-explanatory. Both were always going to be a short-term fix here. Eriksen has returned from his injury while we are in the process of signing Mason Mount from Chelsea.

Weghorst, meanwhile, hardly impressed anyone here. A tally of two goals in 31 games is a very poor return for a Manchester United player.

He was brought in to start up front after Cristiano Ronaldo’s shock exit in November. The Red Devils must now focus on signing a proper world-class striker for the long term.

Everton eyeing on-loan Manchester United striker Wout Weghorst

Wout Weghorst, who is on loan at Manchester United from Burnley, is being eyed by Premier League rivals Everton, according to talkSPORT on Twitter (h/t Express).

The 30-year-old signed for the Red Devils in the previous transfer window from the Clarets on a temporary move. However, the striker is set to return to the Turf Moor side in the coming weeks.

As things stand, the Old Trafford side have no intentions of making a move for the Holland international permanent. To that end, the Goodison Park side could make a move for the forward.

Weghorst signed for Burnley last season in January when Sean Dyche was still in charge of the Clarets. However, they were unable to survive relegation.

Now, the English manager is in charge of the Toffees and led them to safety with a 1-0 win over Bournemouth in the final league game of the season. It looks like the 51-year-old wants to reunite with Weghorst.

The Holland international made a name for himself as a prolific in Germany at Wolfsburg. However, the striker’s experience in the Premier League has been underwhelming.

With Anthony Martial on the sidelines for the majority of the campaign, the 30-year-old was brought in as cover for the number nine position in January. Unfortunately, he has failed to impress.

Everton do not have an abundance of talent up front. They sold Richarlison to Tottenham Hotspur last summer. As for Dominic Calvert-Lewin, injuries have hampered his form and game time over the last two seasons.

Weghorst worked hard whenever Erik ten Hag called upon him. However, with all due respect, the 30-year-old is not up to the Old Trafford side’s standards. Thus, it remains to be seen whether the Holland international will opt to stay in the PL or will move elsewhere.

Burnley boss Vincent Kompany to hold talks with Manchester United striker Wout Weghorst over future

Wout Weghorst, who is on loan at Manchester United from Burnley, will speak with Vincent Kompany at the end of the season regarding his future.

The Holland international signed for the Red Devils in the previous transfer window on a temporary move. But as things stand, the 30-year-old is expected to go back to the Turf Moor side at the conclusion of the campaign.

Speaking via The Mirror (h/t The Sun), Kompany, who has led Burnley to automatic promotion to the Premier League from the Championship this season, will sit down and have a conversation with the striker in the coming months.

“The most important thing for me – and it’s a tough one for me to say obviously because of the Cup Final – is for him personally to finish the season on a high. But still, I want him to do well and we will have the conversation.”

Weghorst signed for Burnley in January 2022 from Wolfsburg. In Germany, the Holland international had established himself as a prolific goalscorer.

However, at the Lancashire-based club, the forward was unable to make a mark and help them survive relegation. Subsequently, the attacker joined Besiktas on loan last summer.

After impressive displays in Turkey and the 2022 World Cup, United brought the 30-year-old to Manchester to provide cover up front for the injury-prone Anthony Martial.

The French national has had fitness issues since the arrival of Erik ten Hag. As a result, the gaffer has been unable to rely on the 27-year-old to lead the line at the Old Trafford side.

As a result, Weghorst has enjoyed a lot of game time over the last few months at United. However, while the Holland international work rate and dedication have been admirable, he leaves a lot to be desired in front of goal.

It remains to be seen whether the Red Devils will pursue his services next summer as well. Also, will Burnley want the striker in their ranks now that they will be back in the English top flight? Only time will tell.

Wout Weghorst reveals Manchester United are “satisfied” with him

Manchester United star Wout Weghorst has revealed that in his conversations with the Old Trafford side, the striker has been told that the club are “satisfied” with him.

The Holland international joined the Red Devils on loan from Burnley in the previous transfer window. Since then, the 30-year-old has played a pivotal role in Erik ten Hag’s plans.

Speaking to The Times via Manchester Evening News, Weghorst acknowledges talks of his move not being made permanent. However, it has been communicated to the forward by United that he is an asset.

“In those [talks] the club said they are very satisfied with me. It has absolutely not been communicated with me that Man United don’t want to continue with me.

“They appreciate my value. They believe I am absolutely an asset for the team. Of course I have heard different things [in the media]. I have to wait and see what happens and focus on our goals in the league and cup competitions.”

He is only on a temporary move at the Old Trafford side until the end of the season. Beyond that, it remains to be seen what the future holds for the striker, with no option or obligation to buy him.

At Wolfsburg, the 30-year-old made a name for himself as a prolific attacker. Then, in January 2022, Burnley came calling for the Holland international’s services.

But Weghorst was unable to help the Clarets survive the drop. Subsequently, last summer, he left the Turf Moor side and joined Besiktas on loan.

However, United were in need of some cover up top after Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure mid-way through the campaign. As a result, we turned to the Holland international for the same.

Due to the fitness issues of Anthony Martial, the 30-year-old has had a pivotal role to play in the Red Devils’ starting lineup over the last few months. But while the striker has worked hard, he has left a lot to be desired in front of goal.

Weghorst’s desire on the pitch is admirable. Unfortunately, with all due respect, the Holland international is not up to the Old Trafford side’s standards. If the 30-year-old would be happy to be the third or fourth-choice striker, then we could think about signing him again.

Rio Ferdinand feels Manchester United should not play Wout Weghorst as number 10

Manchester United icon Rio Ferdinand does not feel Wout Weghorst is good enough to play in the number 10 position for the Old Trafford side.

The Holland international started in the playmaking role in the 1-0 loss to West Ham United in our last match. However, the 30-year-old once again put in an indifferent performance.

Speaking on BT Sport (h/t Manchester Evening News), Ferdinand, who spent 12 years at United, is of the opinion that Weghorst, who is a natural striker by trade, does not have the required quality to play in the attacking midfield position.

    “I just think Man United’s No.10, a top team’s No.10 doesn’t look like a Weghorst in my eyes.”

The Red Devils signed the Holland international on loan from Burnley in January. Since then, he has played a pivotal role in the team due to Anthony Martial’s fitness issues.

In the current campaign, the French national has struggled with multiple injuries. Erik ten Hag has been unable to rely on the 27-year-old, who has been on the sidelines for most of the time since the Dutch manager’s arrival.

Weghorst was seemingly a stop-gap solution to add cover up top in the previous transfer window. However, Ten Hag has often opted to deploy the former Wolfsburg star as a number 10.

The 30-year-old is hard-working, pressing from the front and admirably tracking back. Unfortunately, the Holland international leaves a lot to be desired in the final third of the pitch.

Ten Hag has had to rely on Marcus Rashford to find the back of the net on a consistent basis this season. The 25-year-old has been the gaffer’s preferred number nine in the absence of Martial.

Manchester United have decided against signing Wout Weghorst on a permanent deal after his loan spell expires

According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United have decided not to pursue a permanent move to sign 30-year-old Burnley loanee Wout Weghorst on a permanent deal after his loan ends.

Weghorst joined United on a loan deal from Burnley in January after the lack of forward options that were within the club and the fact that we could not sign anyone on a permanent basis due to the uncertainty surrounding the ownership.

Weghorst was seen as a stop-gap option for Erik ten Hag, who shares the same nationality as the Dutchman. It seemed like an odd move then and it has seemed like a pretty subpar move until now.

While he was praised initially for his high work rate, in the end, it would be apt to summarise that the Dutch international is just not on the level required to be the leading man for United. For a tall forward, he hasn’t been overly impressive in the air while his output in front of goal is way below par for the club to consider making the move permanent.

His work rate off the ball and desire shown to represent the club cannot be deemed enough for us to sign him on a permanent basis and the purpose for which he was brought in would ideally be solved by the end of the current season.

Man United should sign two forwards

Securing Champions League football would allow us to strengthen the squad in key areas and one of the priorities in that is to sign a top-class forward.

Looking at the club’s form up front and injury issues of another forward option in Anthony Martial makes one believe that the club should go for two forwards instead of one.

Erik ten Hag urges Manchester United to bounce back after Brighton & Hove Albion defeat.

One proven forward who can lead the line week in and week out with another big prospect who could be the understudy and eventually take over.

If the club does function in a similar manner, it would provide a drastic change to the way the club has been running for the past few years and finally bring the optimism back to Old Trafford.

    More Manchester United News

For now, we would need both Weghorst and Martial to contribute and help us get over the finish line and achieve our objectives for the season. A top-four finish is the priority while a second trophy for the season would be icing on the cake in what could be seen as a successful first campaign for Erik ten Hag in England.

“He has his goals, he wants United to be in the Champions League and he wants to win the FA Cup if possible. We have our own goals, we still want to get the trophy over the line, but the moments will happen and I’m looking forward to having that conversation.”

Burnley have thrived under the management of the ex-defender. He took charge of the Turf Moor side in the summer of 2022 and has secured automatic promotion for the Championship outfit.

Weghorst joined the Clarets in January 2022. However, the former Wolfsburg star’s addition to the Lancashire-based club’s squad was not enough to keep them in the English top flight.

Subsequently, last summer, the Holland international went to Besiktas on loan. At the Turkish outfit, the 30-year-old thrived. The striker also caught a lot of people’s attention with his displays in the 2022 World Cup as an impact substitute.

Then, in January, United acquired Weghorst’s services. Due to Anthony Martial’s injury issues, the striker has played a pivotal role for Erik ten Hag.

The French national has been in and out of the team since the Dutch manager’s arrival at the Old Trafford side’s dugout. Therefore, the Holland international’s addition to the squad has been important.

In January, United signed Weghorst on loan to provide cover in the number nine position. Anthony Martial has been injured for most of the season. As a result, the 30-year-old has been handed a lot of opportunities in recent months by Erik ten Hag.

The Dutch manager has used the striker as one of the players pressing the opposition from the front. To that end, the forward has arduously done his job. On some occasions, the gaffer has also played him in the number 10 position.

But while the former Wolfsburg star’s work rate and effort cannot be faulted, he has left a lot to be desired in the final third of the pitch for the Red Devils.

In January, the France international had picked up another knock. Subsequently, United signed the 30-year-old to add cover in the number nine position.

Weghorst has worked his socks off at the Old Trafford side. Ten Hag has experimented with the striker’s position on a number of occasions, playing him as a number 10 at times.

However, while the 30-year-old has been a brilliant professional, he has left a lot to be desired in front of the goal. The Holland international’s finishing has been below par at best.
