Wout Weghorst, who is on loan at Manchester United from Burnley, is being eyed by Besiktas ahead of the upcoming transfer window, according to The Sun (h/t Manchester Evening News).

The Super Lig outfit are ‘lining up’ a bid to take the Holland international back to Istanbul. Prior to the 30-year-old’s move to the Old Trafford side, he spent half a season on a temporary move at the Turkish outfit.

However, Weghorst is set to go back to Burnley at the end of the campaign. As a result, Besiktas are looking to get him back from the Clarets. However, the Championship outfit would prefer a sale rather than a loan deal.

The Holland international has played a key role for Erik ten Hag in the last few months. Anthony Martial has been out on the sidelines for most of the season.

In January, the France international had picked up another knock. Subsequently, United signed the 30-year-old to add cover in the number nine position.

Weghorst has worked his socks off at the Old Trafford side. Ten Hag has experimented with the striker’s position on a number of occasions, playing him as a number 10 at times.

However, while the 30-year-old has been a brilliant professional, he has left a lot to be desired in front of the goal. The Holland international’s finishing has been below par at best.

Weghorst also struggled to make a mark at Burnley when he played for them in the English top flight. However, during his short stint at Besiktas, the striker had found his goalscoring touch.

While the 30-year-old is evidently not good enough to start for United, he is a decent option to have on the bench. However, it remains to be seen whether the Red Devils will opt to acquire the former Wolfsburg star’s services once again next summer.
