Manchester United ‘interested’ in move for AS Roma striker Tammy Abraham in January transfer window
AS Roma star Tammy Abraham is on the radar of Manchester United, with the Red Devils ‘interested’ in a move for the striker in the ongoing transfer window, according to Fichajes (h/t Manchester Evening News).
We evidently need a number nine after Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure midway through the season. And the England international is seen as a good option for the Old Trafford side.
However, Chelsea are also being linked with their former star. The Blues have a buy-back option for the 25-year-old after selling him to the Giallorossi in the summer of 2021.
Abraham made his way through the youth ranks at the Stamford Bridge side. He subsequently spent a few campaigns out on loan. After impressing with Aston Villa in the Championship, Frank Lampard decided to give the 25-year-old an opportunity in the first team of the West London outfit.
In the 2019/20 season, the England international led the line at Chelsea. The striker did a decent job up front for the Stamford Bridge side under the now-Everton head coach.
However, the arrival of Thomas Tuchel saw Abraham go down in the pecking order. In the end, the German gaffer did not seem to fancy the forward. Subsequently, he was sold to Roma.
The England international has an impressive debut season under Jose Mourinho in Italy, winning the UEFA Europa Conference League. Unfortunately, the 25-year-old has struggled to find the back of the net in the current campaign.
At United, Anthony Martial is the only natural striker at Erik ten Hag’s disposal right now. Marcus Rashford has also been deployed up front on several occasions this term.
