Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong ‘keen’ on reunion with Erik ten Hag at Manchester United
Frenkie de Jong, currently at La Liga outfit Barcelona, is ‘keen’ on reuniting with Erik ten Hag at Manchester United, according to Fichajes (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Red Devils were interested in the 25-year-old during the summer of 2022 and spent a considerable amount of time chasing his signature. However, in the end, the Holland international stayed with the Blaugrana due to issues regarding his wages at the Camp Nou side.
But the midfielder has still been linked with a move to the Old Trafford side in the months preceding the ongoing transfer window. However, it remains to be seen whether he will end up joining the Manchester-based club.

De Jong has had a phone conversation with Ten Hag, who was his manager at Ajax. Following their discussion, the 25-year-old is looking to make his way to the Old Trafford side.
The Holland international joined Barcelona in the summer of 2019 after impressing under the Dutch manager in Amsterdam. Since then, the midfielder has developed into a quality player.
With Xavi’s arrival, it looked like De Jong had fallen down the pecking order, with the likes of Sergio Busquets, Pedri and Gavi in the side. However, the Holland international has made his way back into the Spanish manager’s plans.
The 25-year-old also shone at the 2022 World Cup with the Netherlands. He was a key player for Louis van Gaal in Qatar. However, the Oranje were beaten by Argentina in the quarter-finals.
United reinforced the middle of the park in the summer of 2022 with the signings of Christian Eriksen and Casemiro. The duo have had an immediate impact in Manchester.
