Manchester United will face fierce competition from PL rivals for Barcelona star
As reported by Spanish publication Sport (h/t The Sun), Manchester United might have their deal for Barcelona star hijacked as Premier League rivals, Chelsea are now prepared to make a £85m bid for Frenkie de Jong.
The Dutch midfielder has recently opened the doors to an exit from the Catalan club. He has grown frustrated with the poor state of the club both on and off the pitch.
Surely, Xavi Hernandez’s impending departure from Barca must’ve had something to do with the decision. The Spanish media who have been relentlessly criticizing the club’s poor form this season could have also played a part in the whole ordeal.
Manchester United came very close to signing a deal for the Dutch midfielder last summer. However, they ultimately failed to bring him home. Now, Chelsea are gearing up to be a thorn in their side during their second attempt at signing De Jong.
However, Sir Jim Ratcliffe might not hesitate to enter a bidding war with the Blues. Player sales and an injection of finances into the club will help United sign a ton of players during the summer. There is no reason as to why De Jong can’t be one of them.
However, outbidding Chelsea can end up being a little frustrating. But, a player of the Dutchman’s quality is well worth the trouble.
