Sevilla and Morocco shot-stopper Yassine Bounou of interest to Manchester United
Manchester United are interested in Sevilla star Yassine Bounou, with the Red Devils having already contacted the shot-stopper’s representatives, according to Foot Mercato (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Old Trafford side have ‘started discussions’ with the Morocco international’s camp regarding a move to the club. However, Bayern Munich are also eyeing the 31-year-old.
Manuel Neuer is out injured for the rest of the season. As a result, the Bavarians have Sven Ulreich and Johannes Schenk in their ranks to call upon. However, they are nowhere near the quality of the German number one.
Bounou joined the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium side in the summer of 2019 from Girona. He took a season to settle in at the Seville-based club, being mainly used in the Europa League.
But in the 2019/20 campaign, the 31-year-old lifted the UEL trophy with Sevilla. Since then, the Moroccan has been a constant fixture for the La Liga outfit.
The goalkeeper was also a key player for his national side in Qatar. Walid Regragui’s team made it to the semi-final of the 2022 World Cup, beating the likes of Belgium, Spain and Portugal on their way. But the Atlas Lions fell short against France.
Currently, David de Gea is the first choice between the sticks for United. The Spaniard has been in fine form since last season. While he did have a shaky start under Erik ten Hag, the 32-year-old has finely bounced back.
However, Martin Dubravka was recalled from his loan spell at the Old Trafford side. As a result, Tom Heaton is now the backup shot-stopper at the Dutch manager’s disposal.
