Real Madrid superstar Karim Benzema eyed by Manchester United on free transfer next summer
Manchester United are eyeing an audacious move for Real Madrid star Karim Benzema on a free transfer in the summer of 2023, according to Spanish publication Nacional via Yahoo Sport (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The France international is in the final year of his current contract with Los Blancos. However, the forward’s talks over a new deal with the La Liga outfit have stalled for the moment. He is looking to take up a new challenge after signing for the European champions in 2009.
Cristiano Ronaldo recently departed the Manchester-based club. As a result, the Red Devils are looking to replace the 37-year-old. The Old Trafford side are willing to offer Benzema “a crazy salary” to lure him to the club.
The France international has grown into his role at Madrid over the years. While previously, when Ronaldo was with Los Blancos, the forward was in the background. However, he has become pivotal with the Portuguese icon’s departure.
After helping the Spanish giants win La Liga and the Champions League last season, the 34-year-old was awarded the 2022 Ballon d’Or award.
Unfortunately for Les Bleus, Benzema has been unable to feature for them at the Qatar World Cup. He was sidelined after being picked in Didier Deschamps’ squad for the prestigious tournament.
For now, with Ronaldo’s untimely exit, Erik ten Hag is left with Anthony Martial as the only natural striker in the team. But the 27-year-old has had issues with staying fit this season.
As a result, Marcus Rashford has been deployed in the number nine position by the Dutch manager on various occasions. However, the 25-year-old leaves a lot to be desired in front of goal.

Thus, we evidently need to bolster the front line. However, while Benzema is world-class, he is on the wrong side of 30. Thus, the France international’s age makes him a short-term solution if he moves to Manchester.
