Canada and LOSC Lille striker Jonathan David admits Premier League ambition amidst Manchester United links
LOSC Lille and Canada star Jonathan David has revealed his admiration for the Premier League amidst links to Manchester United. However, the 22-year-old is not focused on the rumours.
Apart from the Red Devils, table-toppers Arsenal and Newcastle United are interested in the forward. However, the Old Trafford side are the one looking for a new number nine after the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo.
Speaking to the media via The Daily Mail, David disclosed his ambition to play in the English top flight. However, the forward is unsure about his future after the World Cup.
“I am aware of nothing. When I am at the World Cup I am just focused on trying to enjoy the World Cup and enjoying the moment. What happens after I do not know, we will have to see.
“The Premier League is the best league in the world and I think every player would want to play there some day.”
The 22-year-old took part in every fixture Canada played in Qatar during the World Cup group stages. Unfortunately, Les Rouges were eliminated from the competition after losing all three of their matches.
While he has not had the best of times in the Middle East, the striker has been in fine form for Lille this season. In 15 Ligue 1 appearances, he has scored nine goals and provided three assists.
Arsenal are flying high at the moment in the PL. Five points separate them and second place Manchester City in the table. However, their bench strength looks underwhelming, with Eddie Nketiah as the backup for Gabriel Jesus.
Newcastle have also had an impressive campaign so far. The Magpies sit in third place. Since getting new owners, they have spent a good amount of money. In the recent transfer window, Eddie Howe’s team signed Alexander Isak from Real Sociedad.
Ronaldo’s sudden exit has dwindled Erik ten Hag’s options for the forward line. The Dutch manager now only has Anthony Martial as a natural striking option. Marcus Rashford has also played a lot in the number nine role due to the French national’s injury issues.
