Manchester United have held internal discussions regarding a move for prolific Ligue 1 goalscorer
According to 90min (h/t Express), Manchester United have internally discussed the possibility of signing Ligue 1 star Jonathan David. The Red Devils are long-term admirers of the 23-year-old striker.
There have been multiple talks of David being linked to a move away from LOSC Lille. His exemplary form with the French side has played no small part in that.
The Canadian striker has recorded 105 goals and 30 assists over 243 appearances for the club. That is a goal contribution in every other game, numbers that most clubs would like to see their own players put up.
Manchester United would benefit a lot if they can lure the Ligue 1 star over to their team. However, their priority during the January transfer window is on offloading players to make room for new ones in the summer.
David’s contract will run out in 2025, so summer will be a crucial time for him as well. Lille are expected to shop the young man valued at £43m (Transfermarkt).
The Red Devils desperately need more options upfront and getting the 23-year-old to fill that role would be the ideal scenario. However, summer is a long way off and a lot could change by then.
David’s role as a goalscorer is clear to those who watch Ligue 1. After all, only Kylian Mbappe and Alexander Lacazette outscored the Canadian in the 2022-23 domestic campaign.
