Liverpool might have given Manchester United a free run in the race for Real Madrid superstar

As reported by French publication L’Equipe, Liverpool, and Manchester United are amongst several premier league clubs, sizing up a move for Real Madrid superstar, Ferland Mendy. The French defender has one year remaining on his contract.

The Reds are interested in signing Mendy, however, they will not be committing until a new manager comes in. Replacing Jurgen Klopp is not an easy task and Liverpool have been stretched thin in their search for his successor.

Xabi Alonso was the original favourite but seems committed to Bayer Leverkusen. Talks do suggest strong ties to Ruben Amorim but he was recently flown out to England in a private jet arranged by West Ham United.

Until Liverpool gets clarity on the prospect of their future manager, they will not be committing to a move for Mendy. Now, Manchester United have a chance to take advantage of this situation and swoop in for Mendy themselves.

The French defender has made 32 appearances this season and has played a key role in Real Madrid’s La Liga campaign. He was also a star for them in the Supercopa where he scored his only goal of this season.

Ferland Mendy is a solid left-back who can come in and easily thrive in Erik ten Hag’s defense. Manchester United are in desperate need of some quality in the back and the Frenchman could be the one they’ve been looking for.
