England star Marcus Rashford determined to stay as Manchester United optimistic about new contract

Manchester United and England star Marcus Rashford is determined to stay at the club, with the Red Devils optimistic about tying him down to a new contract, according to The Mirror.

The 25-year-old is in the final year of his existing deal with the Old Trafford side. However, the club have the option to extend it by a further season, which they intend to trigger to fend off interest in the forward’s signature.

United are also planning to hand Rashford a new long-term contract considering his performances at the World Cup. The 25-year-old is also keen to stay at the Manchester-based club and declined a chance to leave the Red Devils.

The Old Trafford side’s academy graduate has been impressive in the current campaign. He is the club’s top goalscorer this season, with eight goals in all competitions.

Rashford seems to have found his feet under Erik ten Hag. Last term, the forward was underwhelming and did not manage to make an impact when he featured. However, the Dutch manager’s arrival has changed that.

The 25-year-old is also thriving in Qatar with England. He managed to find the back of the net in the Three Lions’ first group-stage fixture against Iran and scored a brace in the 3-0 win over Wales.

Rashford made his way up through the youth ranks at United. The forward had his breakout season at the Theatre of Dreams in the 2016/17 campaign.

Since then, the 25-year-old has developed into a quality player. The English star recently scored his 100th career goal for the Red Devils.
