Martin Dubravka reveals he had several offers from abroad before joining Manchester United
Manchester United star Martin Dubravka has revealed that he had several offers from England and abroad before making his way to Old Trafford. The 33-year-old could not turn down a chance to join the Red Devils.
The Slovakia international arrived at the Manchester-based club on a season-long loan from Newcastle United. However, the goalkeeper has not been provided many opportunities by Erik ten Hag.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Dubravka admitted he had the chance to join other teams in the recent transfer window. However, joining Man United was an easy decision for the shot-stopper to make.
“I had a couple of offers as well from abroad, and here in England in as well, which I considered. But, obviously when I had the chance to join Manchester United, it was quite simple for me. I wanted to join and want to be part of the process and part of this club. So I’m here now.”
The Slovak made his debut for the Red Devils in the Carabao Cup in November against Aston Villa. We won 4-2 in the game where the 33-year-old started.
Apart from the fixture against Unai Emery’s team, Dubravka has not played in any other match for the Old Trafford side. On the other hand, the goalkeeper was a regular fixture in the Magpies’ starting lineup.
The Slovak signed for Newcastle in the winter window of 2018. However, with the arrival of Nick Pope to Tyneside, the 33-year-old was relegated to the bench and eventually, he decided to move elsewhere.
However, at Man United, David de Gea has been the first choice in between the sticks since last season. While the Spaniard had a tough start in the current campaign, he has bounced back in fine fashion.
The 32-year-old’s recent performances have been world-class. The shot-stopper has also seemingly improved his distribution since the start of the season.
