Manchester United will consider terminating contract of Cristiano Ronaldo if he is unable to find move in January
Manchester United will consider terminating the contract of Cristiano Ronaldo if the Portugal international is unable to find a new team in January, according to The i (h/t Metro).
The Red Devils may decide to part ways with the 37-year-old if Jorge Mendes cannot engineer a move in the winter transfer window. This comes after the five-time Ballon d’Or winner left Old Trafford before full-time during the Tottenham Hotspur game.
Ronaldo wanted to move away from United in the recent transfer window. The Red Devils failed to qualify for the Champions League last season. And the Portuguese was linked with the likes of Chelsea and Roman, amongst other clubs.
However, no deal ended up materialising for the five-time Ballon d’Or winner. And he has stayed in Manchester for the time being.
However, Ronaldo has not had the best of campaigns under the former Ajax head coach. Ten Hag has preferred the likes of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial over the 37-year-old in the centre-forward position.
The Portuguese scored his 700th club career goal against Everton this season at Goodison Park. However, overall, the forward has had an underwhelming campaign with the Old Trafford side.
United beat Spurs 2-0. However, Ronaldo’s antics soured it a bit for fans. Erik ten Hag had vowed to “deal” with the situation. And on Thursday (20 October), the Red Devils put out a statement that said the Portuguese would not be part of the squad to take on Chelsea.
The Old Trafford side will visit Stamford Bridge next on Saturday (22 October) after an emphatic win over Tottenham. Many supporters feel it was our best performance under the new gaffer.
