Leicester City planning £13 million deal for Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek

Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek is of interest to Leicester City, who hope to get the midfielder for £13 million, according to Ekrem Konur on Twitter (h/t Express).

The 25-year-old joined the Red Devils in the summer of 2020 from Ajax. However, since then, the Holland international has not enjoyed the best of spells with the Old Trafford side.

Brendan Rodger’s team are evidently in need of some change. The Foxes need to plan for reinforcements, with Youri Tielemans expected to leave next summer. James Maddison is also attracting a lot of attention.

Van de Beek has struggled for game time since his debut season. In the 2020/21 campaign, while he did feature a lot, the Holland international mainly came on as a substitute.

However, last season saw Van de Beek go down the pecking order even further. The 25-year-old did not seem to be in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick’s plans.

Subsequently, after not starting a single game in the Premier League for United in the previous campaign, the midfielder joined Everton on loan in January. But things did not work out at Goodison Park either.

Van de Beek had a good run initially under Frank Lampard. However, an injury meant the Holland international was ruled out for the Toffees for most of the season in March.

Fans thought the arrival of former Ajax head coach Erik ten Hag to the Old Trafford dugout would change the 25-year-old’s fortunes. However, the midfielder has only played 19 minutes of football in the current campaign.

An injury has once again hampered Van de Beek’s progress this season. And currently, fans would rather see the Holland international ply his trade elsewhere. That would be best for both the club and the player.
