Manchester United confident of closing Antony deal before transfer deadline
Manchester United have turned their attention to signing Antony from Ajax this transfer window and the Red Devils are confident of acquiring the Brazilian’s signature, according to The Athletic (Subscription Required).
Antony is United’s main focus for now as the club have cooled off their interest in PSV Eindhoven youngster Cody Gakpo for the time being. The 22-year-old’s representatives are in London to hash out a deal between the Manchester and Amsterdam-based clubs.
Ajax have put a price tag of €100 million on Antony. United had previously offered €80 million, which was turned down by the Eredivisie champions. Now the Red Devils are seemingly considering a deal worth €94 million for the Brazilian.
Erik ten Hag has previously worked with Antony during his time as Ajax manager. The Dutch manager has already reunited with Lisandro Martinez at Old Trafford. He is now looking to bring the 22-year-old forward to United.
The Red Devils have been after a forward for a while now during the summer. With Cristiano Ronaldo’s future uncertain, it’s imperative that the club bolster the attack.
The Portuguese ended the previous campaign as our top goalscorer. Only Bruno Fernandes was the other player in the squad with a considerable amount of goal contributions. The rest of the squad failed to provide support.
Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Jadon Sancho failed to live up to expectations. The Frenchman joined Sevilla on loan in January after failing to make a place for himself in the team. On the other hand, the English duo struggled for form throughout the 2021/22 season.
Pre-season under Ten Hag was promising. Rashford, Martial and Sancho performed well during the friendlies. However, the new campaign got off to a rocky start. The Liverpool game provided some relief though.

United lack depth up front. Anthony Elanga and Alejandro Garnacho are the backups for the wing positions. Having a game changer like Antony in the squad can prove important if we want to challenge for some titles and the top four this season.
