Manchester United to sit down with Frenkie de Jong as Barcelona try to push him out
Manchester United will meet with Frenkie de Jong after he comes back from the US tour with Barcelona. The Catalans are also trying to push the Dutch midfielder out of the club.
According to Sport (h/t Express), the Red Devils will sit down with De Jong and will try again to convince the player to come to Manchester.
They also claim that Barcelona are trying to get rid of the Holland international. The Catalans are putting pressure on De Jong to leave the club.
The Spanish giants are trying to get the 25-year-old off their wage bill. Barcelona supposedly needs to do that in order to register the new signings they’ve made during the transfer window.
United are willing to match the Dutchman’s salary. Erik ten Hag has De Jong on the top of his list since arriving in the Old Trafford dugout. It seems the Red Devils are willing to go to the extreme to land the midfielder.
The problem has always been De Jong’s desire to stay in Barcelona. The 25-year-old is not keen on moving. But there have been suggestions of him being pushed out as Xavi has played the Dutch midfielder as a centre-back during pre-season.
Currently, United have a lack of quality in the middle of the park. Paul Pogba seemed to be the only box-to-box player with flair in the squad. However, the Frenchman left on a free transfer at the end of the season.
The current pivots in the team haven’t convinced fans either. Fred and McTominay have been inconsistent throughout their spell in the side over the years.
