Ajax technical manager offers hope in Manchester United pursuit of Antony
Speaking in an interview with Voetbal International as quoted by Manchester Evening News, Ajax technical manager Gerry Hamstra admitted that although the club are not expecting any departures with regards to Antony, there is a chance that things could change.
Man United have been interested in signing Antony throughout this summer but a move for the Brazilian talent has not really materialised. Ajax are likely to demand a lot of money for the player and it remains to be seen if anything changes on their side.
Erik ten Hag who is now the new Manchester United boss knows how good Antony is. He signed him from Sao Paulo to Ajax in 2020 and made him one of the most exciting young wingers in Europe during his time at Amsterdam.
The former Ajax manager has already succeeded in convincing former Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez to join him at Old Trafford and it looks like he is not done raiding his former club for more talents.
There is no doubt that Antony will be a useful signing for Man United and having played under Ten Hag, he might not struggle to settle in. But it is understandable if Ajax want big money for the player.
The noise around this particular deal has died down in recent weeks with no particular developments on either side. Man United might not have pulled out of this deal yet but they have other transfer targets to focus on.
Speaking about what the future holds for Ajax, the technical manager admitted that they are looking not to let the core of the team leave but he also conceded that there is a tendency for other clubs to focus on Ajax players.
“I assume that no-one leaves this core anymore. You can never say never and I have learned that by now. But we also talk about it with the players and have conversations, also the boys who may have a wish to leave. Ajax players are drawn, that is logical.”
Man United are pretty well stocked in winger options as things stand and it is not really a priority for them to sign Antony. What is a priority though is reinforcements in midfield and the Red Devils need to focus on that.

Antony can wait, he is set for a big move if not now, in the near future. We need to build a competitive team for next season and that is what is more important as things stand.
