Erik ten Hag confirms Cristiano Ronaldo will play against Rayo Vallecano
Speaking in an interview as quoted by popular Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag confirmed that Cristiano Ronaldo will be involved in some capacity against Rayo Vallecano.
Ronaldo’s future at Old Trafford has been far from certain in recent weeks and it is still not evident if the 37-year-old will continue here next season. The Portuguese forward was absent from Man United’s pre-season preparations for so long.
The former Real Madrid man has now returned to training and has been with the team for about a week now. He is expected to take part in some capacity and play for the Red Devils at least until he is here so that he can be up to speed for next season.
Ronaldo joined Man United from Juventus at the beginning of last season in a move that was received with a lot of fanfare. The return of the prodigal son was expected to bring back the trophies to the Red Devils.
However, things have not panned out as expected. The 37-year-old striker had a good season on a personal note but he could not inspire Man United to win trophies and secure Champions League football for this season.
The talented Portuguese forward played 38 times for the Red Devils last season scoring 24 goals and providing three assists across all competitions. These numbers are really impressive especially considering Ronaldo’s age.
It is easy to see why Ronaldo wants to leave Man United this summer. For a player nicknamed ‘Mr. Champions League ‘, the 37-year-old might not want to spend one season of his career without playing in the coveted competition.
Ronaldo is going to play for Man United against Vallecano but it does not mean that he will play for the club when the new Premier League campaign starts. Things can change but there is a chance the Portuguese forward could change his mind and choose to stay here.
