Manchester United are ready to play their trump card to sign Frenkie de Jong
According to The Express, Manchester United have been doing everything possible to convince Frenkie de Jong to make a move to Old Trafford this summer. However, they would be ready to take a step above by offering even more wages to the Dutch midfielder.
The 25-year-old is being closely monitored by the club as they are waiting for the player to agree to the personal terms. A deal has been already struck with his parent club, although it’s still not complete due to some delicate details.
To make things difficult, the Barcelona midfielder is now a part of the Barcelona preseason squad. This raises further questions over his acceptance of a transfer.
However, the Red Devils are very well informed that the Spanish giants have been convincing their players to take a pay cut this season. de Jong and his agent would not be ready to take any reduction in his wages as the club already owes him £24 million.
The Blaugrana’s financial status has not improved either despite signing a lucrative deal with Spotify. It has however not stopped them from signing several high-profile names this summer.
But Barca would still need to respect the financial fair play rules and would aim to balance their financial books. This leaves United in a stronger position as they can lure the 25-year-old by offering even more wages than the Blaugrana.
It has been claimed that the Red side of Manchester is willing to pay an astonishing sum of £395,000 a week to the Dutch star in wages.
Erik Ten Hag would be looking to reunite with a player whom he has developed into a top midfielder. Although the player wasn’t able to raise any trophy last season, he was very consistent with his performances for Barcelona.

The transfer has been on our radar for a while now and the United board would be disappointed if they are unable to wrap up a deal on time. The fans would be hoping that the ball falls in their court this time.
