Transfer News: Manchester United have shown interest in signing Felix Uduokhai
According to Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb as cited by Sport Witness (h/t Manchester Evening News), centre-back Felix Uduokhai of Augsburg is now a transfer target for Manchester United.
In order to halt the bad run at Old Trafford that has lasted for far too long since Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure, Erik ten Hag is aiming to bring in players who suit his system to the ground.
Prior to the upcoming season, Erik ten Hag was appointed as United’s manager. Since then the Red Devils have already brought in Tyrell Malacia and Christian Eriksen and are set to sign Lisandro Martinez from Ajax.
Martinez is one player who appears certain to join United; the 24-year-old is currently in Manchester to finalise his deal.
However, after giving up 57 goals in 38 games in the top tier the previous season, it is clear that there are further changes needed in order to improve that record.
Now it is believed that Uduokhai is currently being considered by the Red Devils as a ‘further armour’ for Erik ten Hag’s defensive line.
In 2020, the German U21 international signed a long-term contract with FC Augsburg. Injury setbacks during his 2021/22 season prevented him from starting more than 15 games across all competitions.
It’s obvious that Ten Hag considers the centre of the field to be a major trouble area, which could present issues for Harry Maguire.
Although the manager has chosen to keep him as captain, he had a miserable season in 2021–2022. He is also not the quickest on the turn and there have been times when he has been beaten with ease by pacey attackers.

It will be intriguing to see if the captain retains his spot once the new season begins. Martinez and Udokhai could potentially be the guys that Ten Hag hand-picks rather than inherit.
The 6’3″ Udokhai inflicts a commanding presence on the pitch and he could complement Martinez, who isn’t as tall. Both players are 24 years old, making them better long-term options than Raphael Varane and Maguire.
