Manchester United refuse to throw in the towel in Frank de Jong pursuit
According to The Sun(h/t The Metro), Manchester United have refused to give up on Frenkie De Jong amid growing concerns regarding the move. The Red Devils have been accelerating their attempts to sign the midfielder as soon as possible.
The 25-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer. However, the transfer hasn’t been a smooth one since both sides are unable to agree on personal terms.
Barcelona are willing to let De Jong leave Camp Nou only if a potential suitor meets their asking price. It has been no secret that Erik ten Hag is trying to pursue his former player as he continues to rebuild the roster at Old Trafford.
The board is well aware of the manager’s interests and they have gone out of their way to agree on a deal. Manchester United CEO, Richard Arnold, and football director, John Murtough were spotted in Barcelona as they were having talks with the Blaugrana officials.
However, even after making moves, the Red Devils are stuck in a dilemma. It has been known that the Dutch midfielder recently brought a new home in Barcelona. He and his girlfriend are known to be comfortable in their current setup and would resist moving anywhere else.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has recently downplayed the rumours claiming that the club is being forced to sell the player. However, the club will struggle to register new players only if they fulfil the financial fair play rules.
It has been claimed that the player has also informed his teammates that it would be impossible for him to leave the club. One of the reasons would be the lack of Champions League football and inconsistent performances from Manchester United.
Now,the Spanish press are trying to create more confusion by stating that the player will be staying. The Manchester United board are convinced that the player is open to joining the club and are refusing to give up their efforts.

Erik Ten Hag is doing a fair job in making sure the club signs the right players and does not repeat similar mistakes again. Ajax Amsterdam star Lisandro Martinez looks set to join Christian Eriksen, and Tyrell Malacia as the club’s new recruits this summer.
Whether de Jong will be the fourth name on that list remains to be seen. One of the best young midfielders in Europe, de Jong has a huge decision to make in the coming days.
