Jadon Sancho backed to come good under Erik ten Hag at Manchester United
Speaking ahead of the 360 Sports TV Masters Cup as quoted by Manchester Evening News, former defender Wes Brown has backed Manchester United star Jadon Sancho to thrive under Erik ten Hag next season.
Sancho joined Manchester United from Borussia Dortmund at the beginning of last season in a move that was welcomed with much fanfare at Old Trafford. Initially struggling to adapt to the Premier League, it took some time for the English wonderkid to come into his own.
The 22-year-old English sensation has played 38 times for the Red Devils this season scoring five goals and providing three assists across all competitions. Whilst these numbers are nothing to write home about, Sancho only improved as the season went on.
Brown conceded that he thinks next season will be when we see the best of Jadon Sancho and that the Englishman would show his best version under Erik ten Hag.
“I can see Jadon Sancho pushing on under Ten Hag. It’s football, you know what you have to do, it’s just whether you have the confidence to do it.”
The ex-United defender went on to emphasize the improvement he saw in Jadon Sancho as the season went on and why he thinks Sancho could make a lot of difference
“During the second half of the season, when Sancho was taking on players, sometimes two, three, four defenders, he had very close control and was getting in their face. I noticed once he started doing that, I could see panic in the opposition. The top teams have that type of player, so I think he could be key for next season.”
One of the best players in the Bundesliga during his time with Borussia Dortmund, Sancho was a force to reckon with. Many expected him to translate that form in England but that is yet to happen.
He might have had a slow start to life at Old Trafford but it’s not unusual for players who come to the Premier League to take some time to adapt to it. He still showed flashes of the brilliance he possesses and we can’t count against him having a breakthrough season next time around.
Erik ten Hag in specific is a great manager for any youngster to work under. He has the reputation for developing youngsters and making them world-class players during his time as manager at Ajax.
