Erik ten Hag calls up academy players to train with the Man United first-team

Man United coach, Erik ten Hag seems to be running out of options. The Dutchman has been dealing with a depleted squad as some of his team’s best players have been out due to injury for large stretches of this season.

As reported by Manchester Evening News, Ten Hag called up four youngsters from the Man United academy to train with the first team this week. Harry Amass, Zach Baumann, James Scanlon and Ethan Wheatley were all spotted in training.

Amass is a left-back and would provide the Dutchman with a solid option to cover for Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia who are both out due to injuries. The 17-year-old defender is yet to get a nod for the first team.

Zach Bauman plays as a central midfielder and it is highly unlikely that he will be getting minutes against Coventry City. Ten Hag already has Bruno Fernandes, Mason Mount and Kobbie Mainoo to cover the midfield.

James Scanlon is another midfielder, so it will be difficult for him to get minutes ahead of the above-mentioned players. However, he has a lot of quality for a 17-year-old and Ten Hag might use him in a pinch.

Lastly, Ethan Wheatley is a quality striker and has done well for himself with the U-18 team. The 18-year-old has made 25 appearances this season scoring 11 goals and recording four assists for his team.
