Transfer News: Dean Henderson plans to leave Manchester United this summer

According to Manchester Evening News, Dean Henderson is plotting to leave Manchester United in any possible manner in the summer transfer window. He has largely struggled to earn regular game time this season following David De Gea’s rise at the start of this campaign.

De Gea had displaced Henderson from the starting spot at the beginning of this term. The latter has not been able to regain his spot since then and has even struggled to earn some game time. Now, he has expressed his intentions to leave Old Trafford this summer which would be a blow for Man United.

Henderson is looking to facilitate a loan move or even a permanent transfer after this season. However, he could still decide to stay if the incoming Erik ten Hag promises to make him the starter from the next campaign onwards. Whether that will happen, though, remains to be seen.

Does Henderson have a future at Man Utd?

There is no doubt that Henderson is a top-quality shot-stopper which is evident from his last campaign for us. Unfortunately, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick have preferred De Gea over him throughout this campaign after the latter has returned to his old self.

That being said, there are concerns over De Gea’s lack of technical quality, especially when Ten Hag is set to join us this summer. After all, that could be problematic if the incoming boss plans to impose his identity on the Manchester club, which does not suit the Spaniard’s strengths.

As such, Henderson could still play a major part with us moving forward as he is far better than De Gea in the build-up. What’s more, Ajax Amsterdam had tried to sign the former on loan back in January, so it may not be too much of a reach to say that Ten Hag could depend on the English keeper moving forward.

Hence, Henderson could still stay with us past this term despite his current stance. We hope that is the case, as the 25-year-old could greatly safeguard our long term future. While De Gea still has years left in his playing career, the second choice goalkeeper is still a better option for our future.

Let’s wait and see what decision would Ten Hag make when it comes to his goalkeeper from the next campaign onwards. If the Dutch coach decides to stick with De Gea, it would be best to push for a loan move as Henderson could still be useful when we eventually have to replace our number one choice.
