Manchester United experienced a new low when they lost to a struggling Everton side at Goodison Park earlier today.

The Red Devils lacked bite all night and failed to beat a defensively suspect Toffees side that had suffered defeat against Burnley earlier this week. The fact that Man United could not beat such a team that was already in the doldrums speaks volumes of their morale at this point in time.

Marcus Rashford to his credit fashioned a few opportunities for himself early on but could not find a way past an inspired Jordan Pickford. These missed chances came to haunt us as Anthony Gordon saw his shot deflect off Harry Maguire and give Everton the lead in the 27th minute.

Man United showed more urgency in the second half as they looked for a way back into the tie. While they enjoyed the lion’s share of the possession, a lack of inspiration was apparent and it showed.

The loss has not just put a dent in the club’s image but also a massive blow to our efforts of landing a UEFA Champions League spot. The Red Devils are now three points off the fourth spot having played a game more. With just a handful of games left to go this season, it would appear that Man United have little to play for.

Fans would understandably be frustrated. Not only have Man United not made the finals of the UCL since 2011, but they also may now not be in the conversation for next year’s trophy at all. As three-time winners of the competition, this is truly a disgrace.
