David de Gea gives his verdict as Manchester United lose to Everton
Speaking after the game, as quoted by The Athletic (Subscription Required), Manchester United star, David de Gea has pulled no punches while giving his verdict on the Red Devils’ 1-0 loss to Everton.
The Toffees are struggling in the Premier League and are embroiled in a relegation battle to save their skins. Despite having won just seven Premier League games until that point, they secured all three points against Ralf Rangnick’s men.
Anthony Gordon’s 27th-minute strike took a massive deflection off Harry Maguire to leave de Gea completely flat-footed. The Spaniard could only watch on in anger as the ball nestled in the corner of his net to hand the Toffees the lead.

The Red Devils now face an uphill task in securing a top-four finish. They are currently three points off fourth-placed Tottenham but have played a game more. With just a handful of games left, this loss could very well prove decisive in the race for Champions League qualification.
To lose to a side that was in the doldrums such as Everton is a poor showing, to say the least. De Gea did not mince words and admitted that the Red Devils should have won the game.
“It is a disgrace from us, we should be winning this game.”

The veteran goalkeeper also cast a shadow on Man United’s chances of finishing in the top four. Given the showing on the night, one will have to back the 31-year-old’s assessment.
“We don’t score but we don’t create proper chances to score. We are not good enough, that is for sure. It will be difficult to be in the top four.”
Despite having several top stars on the field, the Red Devils failed to take the game to Everton in the second half. They failed to create many clear-cut chances and looked largely uninspired. The fact that they did not make the most of the lion’s possession is a worrying trend that needs to be addressed.

Man United have nothing left to play for this season apart from securing a Champions League spot. The lack of cutting edge or hunger that the players showed despite what was on the line is a worrying trend that needs to be addressed.
Whether it be Erik ten Hag or someone else, the next permanent manager will have much work on his hands to rescue a side that is lacking in both effort and application.
