Premier League clubs Newcastle United and Aston Villa eyeing shock transfer for Manchester United star Paul Pogba

According to The Sun, Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has been targeted by Premier League clubs Newcastle United and Aston Villa, with the player set to be available for free in the summer.

The Frenchman sees his current deal at Old Trafford expire at the end of the season, and thus far, there has been no communication from either club or player about him extending his stay in Manchester since returning to the side in 2016 after a spell away with Juventus.

The 29-year-old midfielder’s talent is no secret, with Pogba being regarded as one of the best midfielders in the world during his time in England. While his time at Juventus and for the France national team certainly seems more successful than his stint with us, he has often been one of our best players over the course of a season.

Given his obvious talent, there can be no surprise about European giants such as Juventus, Real Madrid, and Paris Saint-Germain all being favourites to land the star. The France international has prior experience playing for Juve, which could work in their favour to land him for a second time.

PL interest for Pogba

Despite the big names that are interested in him, there seems to be an ambitious move from side closer home in the Premier League that are keen on snapping up Pogba for free ahead of the new season. Newcastle and Aston Villa are said to be monitoring his situation in the summer, in what could be a shock transfer move in the coming months.

Newly-rich Newcastle have been bestowed with funds from their owners this season as they fight to stay in the English top-flight, while a Steven Gerrard-led-Villa are keen on adding more quality players to their team in an effort to push up the table.

Eddie Howe brought in Kieran Trippier, Bruno Guimaraes, Chris Wood, and Dan Burn in the winter transfer window by flexing their financial might, and the Magpies have been on a brilliant run since then, escaping the relegation zone and climbing up the league table to safety.

They would hope that adding more quality to their side next season could see them challenge other big teams in the Premier League, with their new Saudi owners being ambitious and trying to turn the Tyneside club into world-beaters in the future.

Aston Villa, meanwhile, roped in Gerrard as their new boss to transform their side into a solid team and have given him the green light to achieve their goals, with the Liverpool legend signing players like Phillipe Coutinho and Lucas Digne to bolster their side. They perhaps believe that Pogba could be the next addition to their squad to further boost their options in the team.

Despite these ambitious plans made by the Premier League, it would be surprising to see Pogba leave a giant like Man United to join two teams that don’t guarantee success in England, at least in the short term. Until then, the million-dollar question of whether the midfielder stays or departs United continues to circle.
