Ralf Rangnick delivers injury update on Manchester United duo Scott McTominay and Edinson Cavani

Ralf Rangnick has given the latest injury update on Manchester United duo Scott McTominay and Edinson Cavani ahead of the match against Watford later today. The Premier League clash will take place at Old Trafford, where his team will try to strengthen their hold over fourth place in the league table.

McTominay has been suffering from an illness since the last matchday and will sit on the sidelines today as well. He also missed the 1-1 draw against Atletico Madrid as a result and would be a major blow to Man United. Cavani, on the other hand, is still struggling with a groin injury that has kept him out since the 1-1 tie against Burnley.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with the club’s media (h/t Manchester United official website), Rangnick has revealed that the Red Devils will be without the duo’s services as they prepare to take on the Hornets. The boss is hopeful that the midfielder will be available by next week, whereas a time frame for the striker has not been provided just yet.

“The situation is exactly the same. He [Cavani] hasn’t been training with us so he won’t be available for tomorrow’s game and the same is true with Scotty. He is still ill, he hasn’t been training with us, so hopefully, he will start training with us again next week, but for tomorrow’s game they will both be unavailable.”

Frustration!

The 35-year-old forward’s unavailability has certainly frustrated the fanbase as his time at the club is going through a very rough phase. He had a quality first season and quickly became a fan favourite, but his lack of availability this term has left a bittersweet taste among the supporters.

With the Uruguayan attacker’s contract set to expire this summer, it’s for the best that we part ways with each other. After all, it would not make sense to offer him an extension when he has struggled to maintain his fitness throughout this campaign.

More Manchester United News

The English midfielder has had a lot of criticisms for quite a long time, and rightfully so, but he was missed in the recent Champions League fixture against Atletico. That would undoubtedly be the case today as well, although Nemanja Matic’s performance against the La Liga side certainly gives us a sigh of relief.

Who knows, maybe the interim coach rewards him with a start today following his solid display, which helped us gain control in the second half of the European tie in Madrid. Whether that will happen or not remains to be seen.
