Transfer News: Man Utd could push for the signing of 28-year-old Serie A ace

Transfer News: Manchester United interested in signing Inter Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoğlu in the next transfer window

According to Interlive.it (h/t Sports Witness), Manchester United could make a move for veteran midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu in the summer. It is also believed that Inter Milan would not be willing to consider any offer below €30m whilst the Red Devils are ready to offer in the region of €18-20m

The Red Devils seem to be in a bit of a rebuilding phase at the moment. With a looming uncertainty regarding the long-term future of the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani, the club could be looking to bring in new players to usher a new era at Old Trafford.

Paul Pogba will also be out of contract in the summer and with the rumour mill surrounding the French international, the possibility of him leaving the club at the end of the season seems even more real with every passing day.

In such a case, the Manchester-based club could do themselves a favour by adding another midfielder to their ranks. Çalhanoğlu played an integral role for AC Milan before joining the Nerazzurri on a free transfer last summer.

Manchester United could pursue Hakan Çalhanoğlu in the summer

He has put on some great displays for the defending Serie A champions this campaign and was impressive in their last UEFA Champions League fixture against Liverpool where he hit the woodwork in the first half.

The Turkish international was a menace throughout the night and Simone Inzaghi seems to be getting the best out of him in this system. The 28-year-old midfielder has already scored six goals and provided nine assists in 30 matches across all competitions for Inter Milan this season.

Despite all of this, one is forced to think about whether or not the former Bayer Leverkusen player will be a good fit at Old Trafford. The Turkish midfielder is used to plying his trade in a more central or attacking position in the middle of the pitch.

Çalhanoğlu has been impressive for Inter Milan this season

Manchester United already have a great option in Bruno Fernandes who operates in a similar position and has cemented his role quietless seamlessly. The Red Devils also have the likes of Donny van de Beek currently out on loan to Everton who has previously showcased his abilities in that position.

Çalhanoğlu would therefore have to make do with a deeper position in the middle of the pitch which may not be the most ideal thing for the Turkish player. Whilst having a lot of options can be a good thing and help boost competition for regular minutes, we have also viewed how it has impacted the likes of Jesse Lingard and van de Beek who have had restricted minutes at Old Trafford due to the availability of the Portuguese star midfielder.

It is believed that interim manager Ralf Rangnick could push for the signing of the Turkish international in the summer when he could be in a consultancy role at the club. That being said, only time can tell whether or not the Red Devils are able to lure Hakan Çalhanoğlu from the Giuseppe Meazza.
