Transfer News: Wolves confident of fending off Manchester United interest in Ruben Neves
According to The Sun, Wolves are confident about keeping Manchester United away from Ruben Neves in the January transfer window. He has been sensational over the past few years at the Molineux, which has seen him become a long term target for the Red Devils.
Neves is tied down at Wolverhampton Wanderers for two more years, which has given them complete control over his future for now. Man United had shown an interest in signing him this month and are plotting to make a £35million bid for his services. However, there have not been any developments since then.
Moreover, Wolves would only entertain a bid in the range of at least £40million to £45million, considerably higher than what the Manchester club were planning to offer. Arsenal are also keeping tabs on the situation, but Wolves do not appear keen to part ways with their star man.
Bruno Lage’s side is confident that they can keep hold of the 24-year-old at least until the end of this season. They are also hopeful that qualifying for European could help them keep him past this summer. With not many days left for the window to close, it will be interesting to see how this situation pans out in the coming days.
A patient approach?
It is puzzling why we have not officially pursued the Portuguese superstar’s services proactively this month. It is not like we do not need a dynamic presence in the middle of the pitch.
Wolves’ asking price does not seem too expensive for a player who isn’t just a consistent performer but also a proven commodity in the top flight. With Monday’s deadline nearing, the Red Devils face a race against time to land a player they desperately need.
The only thing that gives us a sigh of relief is that Neves is no closer to agreeing to an extension at the Molineux. As long as we qualify for the Champions League for next season and Wolves miss out on European competition, there is always the chance that Man United can return for Neves in the summer.

The Portuguese international had expressed his desire to play in the European competitions, so it would be too much of a reach to state the above scenario. However, the concerning issue would be whether Ralf Rangnick can minimise the instability in the midfield, at least for the time being. Hopefully, it is just a matter of time before Neves eventually makes the switch to Old Trafford.
