Transfer News: Manchester United battle AS Roma and Leeds United for Boubacar Kamara

According to Sky Sports via mufcmpb on Twitter (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United are competing with AS Roma and Leeds United for the services of Boubacar Kamara for a potential transfer in the future. He is one of the highly-rated midfielders in France right now and could be in line to make a big move up ahead.

Kamara has enjoyed a rapid rise over the past few years and has become a mainstay in Jorge Sampaoli’s team. A solid defensive midfielder, Kamara can deputize as a centre-back if the situation calls for it.

Just like Man United, Leeds and Roma are keen on adding the 22-year-old to their squad for their respective reasons. The Whites are going through an injury crisis that has seen them hover over the relegation zone recently. Jose Mourinho’s team, meanwhile, requires reinforcements to make a push for the UCL spots.

Beat off the competition

The Frenchman has entered the final six months of his current deal and it is perhaps the best time to sign him, given he hasn’t renewed his contract at Marseille. Since he is in line to become a free agent next summer- if an extension is not signed- the French club would know that this is the last window where they can cash in on him.

We need defensive midfielders in our squad so the Ligue 1 star can earn regular minutes at Old Trafford if he keeps performing at the same level. And with all due respect to Roma and Leeds, they fade in comparison to a club our size.

The need for a quality defensive midfield option has risen considerably after Ralf Rangnick has recently shifted to a 4-3-3 formation. Scott McTominay has been utilised as the midfield cog just ahead of the defence while Fred has seemingly played as a box-to-box midfielder.

We cannot afford to go the rest of the season without adequate options, as the depth in the team is questionable at this point. One could argue that we would have been wise to add a defensive midfielder last summer itself, but instead, the board went with Raphael Varane, Jadon Sancho, and Cristiano Ronaldo instead.

With very few days left in the January transfer window, the board would need to work overtime to sign the French midfielder. Time is against us, so it remains to be seen if the hierarchy would be successful in their pursuit of the talented prospect or not.

If a deal does not happen and Kamara stays at Orange Velodrome without renewing his deal, then there would be the option to bring him in as a free agent in the summer. But nothing can be guaranteed by then. With multiple clubs after him, United would be wise to bring their man in as soon as possible so we can finish this season strongly.
