Transfer News: Manchester United ace Anthony Martial rejects Newcastle United and has set sights on a move to Spain
According to Spanish publication Sport (h/t The Sun), Manchester United ace Anthony Martial has rejected a transfer to Newcastle United and is eyeing a move to Spain.
The 26-year-old is unhappy at Old Trafford and has made it clear that he wants to leave. The Frenchman may have arrived with a lot of hype in 2015 but has failed to impress in his 268 appearances for the club in the last half a decade.
Sevilla have tried to hand him an escape route, but their loan bid was rejected by Man United. Barcelona are thought to be keen, as are relegation-battling Newcastle United. The Magpies recently signed Kieran Trippier and are eyeing reinforcements in the strike department following the injury to Callum Wilson.
They apparently made a bid worth £30million to sign the Frenchman, but Martial has rejected a move to the North East. The centre-forward is instead keen on joining a Spanish club.
Works well for us
Things may not be clicking for the striker at the Theatre of Dreams but he could rekindle some good form at another club. And it works well that he is choosing to move to a foreign club because signing for an English club could have created problems for us.
If Martial flourished at St. James’ Park, he could have handed us a blow in one-off games against us and also influence our ambitions to finish in the Top 4 or potentially in competing for the title in the near future. Additionally, if the Toon Army invest well over the next few transfer windows, they might become a force to reckon with, and the Frenchman could have been leading their line.
After all, we have seen first-hand what the ex-AS Monaco forward is capable of on his best days. His 2019/20 season would still be fresh in the minds of many Man United fans.
Man United would not want to have any regrets over a transfer, courtesy of which, it would arguably be better for us if he joins a Spanish club. Sevilla and Barcelona are European rivals for us but do not affect us directly in the domestic competitions.

Regardless, an exit is yet to be finalized. There are still about three weeks until the end of the January transfer window, and Martial would be hoping a transfer is negotiated soon as he looks to gain consistent minutes and play first-team football again.
It has been a while since Martial was gradually removed from the first-team picture. The arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho certainly spelt an end for his hopes of regular starts in the team, and Rangnick hasn’t trusted him a lot with PL starts. Thus, we would be wise to accept a smart offer for him in January and finally put a full stop to this saga.
