Transfer News: Manchester United told the valuation of Benfica attacker Darwin Nunez

According to the Spanish news outlet Fichajes (h/t SportsMole), Manchester United have been handed the valuation of Benfica attacker Darwin Nunez amidst interest from Chelsea and Arsenal. He has had a terrific campaign and has helped his side to challenge for the Portuguese Premiera Liga this season.

Nunez has a release clause worth £127.3million which is unlikely to be met by any of the interested parties. The Portuguese club have realised that and named a price tag of £67.9million for his services. They are not interested in entertaining any offers below this price.

As Aguias are determined to keep hold of their star man and has taken this stance to keep all the cards in their hands. His current contract runs for just over three and a half years, meaning they hold a comfortable position in potential negotiations. Clubs like Manchester City, Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund are also vying for the signature of the 22-year-old.

Exciting prospect?

The Uruguay international has featured in 21 matches this season and has scored 18 goals while providing two assists in the process. It is no wonder he has earned such interest from clubs across Europe. While his asking price is still high, it is a much more manageable figure than his earlier quoted release clause.

There is uncertainty regarding the future of several players au Old Trafford like Edinson CavaniAnthony Martial and Jesse Lingard. Their potential departures could leave a gap in the squad that needs to be filled. The Benfica centre-forward could bridge that gap with his quality while also offering his services as a long term prospect.

Cristiano Ronaldo is nearing the final act of his career, which calls for further attention towards the striking position. He would be nearly irreplaceable, but we should find someone who would facilitate his output by linking up well with those around him. With the best years of his career ahead of him, Nunez’s potential could be fulfilled under the guidance of a proper manager.
