Manchester United could plot move to sign AS Roma star Tammy Abraham

According to football journalist Alex Crook on the TalkSport GameDay podcast (h/t The Sun), Manchester United could decide to turn their attention towards AS Roma star Tammy Abraham following their failure to sign Darwin Nunez. The latter is set to join Liverpool, and Abraham could be identified as his potential replacement.

Man United are now expected to divert their attention to alternative targets following their setback with Nunez. As such, they could have a look at Abraham considering how they considered the prospect of signing him back in the January transfer window.

Abraham appears to be more than happy with his life at Roma, which could be an issue for the Red Devils. That being said, it is touted that he may look to return to the Premier League in the future but whether that will be this summer or not remains to be seen. Even if that is the case, there are doubts over the English side’s ability to convince him of a transfer move.

“I’ve just got a suspicion they might try and get Tammy Abraham out of Roma. He was someone that I think they looked at in January.”

Great but is it possible?

Having left Chelsea to team up with Jose Mourinho last summer, Abraham has adapted instantly to life in Italy and has impressed with splendid displays. With 26 goals and five assists to his name from 52 appearances, the striker has made more than enough of a claim to play for a bigger club.

So it would be perfectly understandable if Erik ten Hag’s side would decide to move for Abraham this summer. However, finalising a potential transfer could be challenging indeed, looking at the campaign the 24-year-old had with the Italian side in the previous season.

After all, the England international won the UEFA Europa Conference League title with the Serie A club, which resulted in their qualification to the Europa League for the upcoming campaign. Furthermore, Abraham has also improved his game to newer heights, having already impressed at Stamford Bridge.

Fortunately, it seems that Roma may be open to selling Abraham, considering how Mourinho gave a promise that they will allow him to leave should he want to in the future. That means it is now up to the management to convince the centre-forward regarding the prospect of playing under ten Hag at Old Trafford next season.

That could be a daunting task indeed, as Abraham looks to be happy with how things have turned out at his current club. One doesn’t need to look further than the Englishman’s behaviour during and after games, where it is clear that his team’s fans embrace him and he adores them as well.

Then again, potentially being the face of our frontline in the future could be an attractive prospect if Abraham can be convinced that we are finally on the right track to returning to our glory days. That will be up to the hierarchy, and ten Hag, so let’s hope to see a successful attempt soon enough.

However, it remains to be seen if United visit this road in the first place.
