Transfer News: Manchester United ready to offload Dean Henderson on 18-month loan deal in January amidst Newcastle United interest
According to transfer news on The Sun, Manchester United are willing to let Dean Henderson leave Old Trafford on an 18-month loan deal in January amidst interest from Newcastle United.
The shot-stopper has been miserable on the bench this season. At 24, the Englishman would be expecting to start for the club, but it has not panned out that way.
Henderson managed 26 appearances across all competitions last season, but only half were in the Premier League. David de Gea was preferred to him but he was expected to be challenged for the No 1 spot this season.
However, the young shot-stopper was struck with Covid-19 in pre-season. It has taken him a while to get back from that, and eventually made it into the first team for the Cup game against West Ham in September.
He is yet to receive a league start this campaign, but he might not wait any longer. The English international wants to feature for his nation at the 2022 World Cup. This might require considerable minutes, and a move in January could be on the cards.
In fact, United are also open to sanctioning an 18-month loan move. They are comfortable with the idea of the goalkeeper garnering minutes elsewhere and coming back later to compete for the No 1 spot.

This deal could prove to be very useful as the player has excelled on loan previously. The 24-year-old spent the entirety of the 2019/20 season with Sheffield United and helped them achieve a finish in the top half of the table. Newcastle United are keen on a deal and might provide him with an escape route in the winter window.
Moreover, Jordan Pickford, Aaron Ramsdale, and Sam Johnstone are ahead of him in Gareth Southgate’s pecking order. Thus, a loan deal would enable some consistent minutes, and United would get a more experienced keeper in return.
