Danny Mills slams Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for his decision to use Jadon Sancho as wing-back

Speaking to Football Insider (h/t Metro), Danny Mills has criticised Manchester United coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for using Jadon Sancho as a wing-back in training. He was baffled to know about the revelation as he could not make sense of it.

The 21-year-old was one of United’s marquee signing this summer after he was bought for £75m from Borussia Dortmund. He emerged to become one of the most talented youngsters in the football world during his time in Germany.

However, following his move, Sancho has largely been overlooked and has not found his feet inside the Man Utd squad. As a result, he has been restricted to a bench role with, Solskjaer preferring others over him. The Athletic recently broke the news that he was used as a wing-back in training sessions at Carrington.

“You bought a winger who is going to create chances and score goals. Suddenly you’re going to play him at wing-back in an unbelievably leaky defence. It’s like, really?

Mills was having none of it and went in on the Norwegian for his peculiar decision to use the England international in such a role. He was adamant that something like this should be deserving of a sack since it does not make any sense whatsoever.

“That’s almost a sackable offence in itself. Shall we put Cristiano Ronaldo at centre-half because he can head a ball? It’s more than a little bit ridiculous.”

The winger is yet to make a mark in terms of goal involvement at Old Trafford, which is not what any of us expected when we signed him. However, his situation reminds us of what is happening to Aaron Wan-Bissaka under the tenure of the Red Devils coach.

Wan-Bissaka was brought in as a defensive right-back, and he is being asked to play offensively on the wings. Similarly, Sancho is a creator in his style of play, but he is playing as a direct winger to drive at the defences. Questions need to be asked either at the sporting department for buying players that do not suit the role or at Ole for not utilising them properly.
