Solskjaer: ‘Sick’ Jadon Sancho has completed only one training session ahead of Leeds United clash

According to TV 2 Sporten (h/t The Metro), Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that Jadon Sancho is sick going into our season opener against Leeds United.

The English international was the club’s marquee signing this summer and fans have been excited to see him in action. One of the best young players in the world, he cost the club a mammoth £73million in transfer fees. His capture is a culmination of 18 months of pursuit that ended with Borussia Dortmund finally giving in.

Much hype was generated earlier this week when Sancho finally underwent his first training session. Solskjaer has however revealed that it so far remains his only completed session since joining the club. Whether this is a hint that the player will not face Leeds remains to be seen.

“He has had one-and-a-half training sessions with us, so he has not trained much.”

Sancho was given extended time off following his summer exploits with England at the European Championship. He had a short holiday before arriving in Manchester. Unfortunately, his sickness has now poured cold water over our preparations.

“He has had a holiday after the European Championships and then he has been a little sick, unfortunately.”

Sancho’s perceived absence is a double blow for United, who will already be without Marcus Rashford and Edinson Cavani. Whether the young winger will be deemed fit enough to make the bench remains to be seen.

Solskjaer has no doubt regarding his new acquisition’s quality but admits we may have to wait a while before he gets to his best. However, there is little doubt that he will prove useful to us over the course of the season.

‘He is a player I am sure will give us many happy moments in the years to come

United lost their opening fixture of the season last time around against Aston Villa. The poor start to the season eventually cost us a shot at the league and we finished 12 points off the summit placed second. A win against Leeds could set the ball rolling for what could be a very special season.

United have enough quality in their ranks to see off a plucky Leeds side who can be a pain to deal with. There is no love lost between both teams and we could not have asked for a trickier opener. Hopefully, that will see the players on the top of their game from the word go.
