FC Barcelona wants Manchester United forward Edinson Cavani in January
According to Spanish news outlet Marca (h/t Daily Star), FC Barcelona are interested in Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani and wants to get him in the winter transfer window. The interest is amid an injury crisis in the forward line for the Blaugrana.
Cavani left Paris Saint-Germain on a free and moved to Old Trafford for a one year deal and has extended his contract for a year. He has fared well so far at Manchester and has been dependable by leading from the front.
Things started changing for the Uruguayan this season following the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo. He had to downgrade and play as second fiddle and has got less game time compared to the last year. Injuries have also been an issue this term as he is currently out with a tendon injury.
Barcelona are claimed to be eyeing the 34-year-old on a loan deal in January since a number of their attackers are currently out due to injuries. Sergio Aguero and Martin Braithwaite would be unavailable for long periods, and the centre-forward slot is vacant currently.
A permanent transfer is out of the conversation due to the financial situation of the Catalan giants. The United striker would still offer quality to their side and is also well known for his work rate. However, the recurring injury issues would be a concern for them since they would not want to lose another one of their forwards.
The La Liga club are also keeping tabs on Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling and Chelsea’s Timo Werner as potential options in the January transfer window. Joan Laporta is said to want to have at least three incoming to boost their forward line.
