Gareth Southgate gives update on the concussion of Manchester United defender Luke Shaw
According to Manchester Evening News, England manager Gareth Southgate has issued an update on the concussion that Luke Shaw suffered in the last match for Manchester United. Shaw got dealt with a blow to the head in United’s 2-0 loss to Manchester City in the Premier League.
The 26-year-old endured the injury in the second half and was substituted for Alex Telles later in the game. Following the match, he was subjected to concussion protocols and has remained at home for the diagnosis.
The defender has not joined the England national team as he was called up for the November Qualifiers. It is now confirmed that he will miss the first game against Albania later today. Southgate has provided an update on the matter ahead of the game.
“I’ve got to check in with our medical staff for today’s updates, the longer it goes the less likely that is [that he’ll be involved].”
The England boss mentioned that the left-back has to follow strict guidelines and has failed to pass the first tests. He added how the latest updates are yet to be received and the England international could be on the sideline as a result.
“Luke has got very strict guidelines on concussion markers, the first day he didn’t pass the markers so that gets shifted back. We’ve got to follow the guidelines on that, we might run out of time, we’ll just see.”
