Manchester United ace Teden Mengi likely to leave on loan in January
Speaking in an interview (h/t The Metro), Manchester United U-23 coach Neil Wood believes starlet Teden Mengi could leave on a loan deal in January.
The youngster has worked through the ranks at the academy and has made quite a name for himself. He spent the second half of last season on loan at Derby County, under the tutelage of United legend Wayne Rooney.
A move back to the Championship club was apparently on the cards this summer but it did not work out. Mengi stayed at Old Trafford and has been a regular captain for the U-23s.
U-23s coach Neil Wood has revealed it is ‘important’ for the 19-year-old’s confidence to leave on loan in January.
‘I’m not sure if the chance was there for him (Mengi) to go out on loan [in the summer] or not…I think for him it is just important he keeps getting game time, he keeps himself fresh and by January his pathway might change.
‘He might end up going out on loan, which I think would probably be the case. It is important he gets his confidence, he gets himself playing right and he is making himself looking a good player like he has done with the U23s.’

The defender featured heavily in pre-season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but has failed to make it into the first team. However, given the recent injury troubles at the back, he may be considered a viable option. Harry Maguire looks off the paces while Raphael Varane is set to be out for a month due to an injury.
Solskjaer also recently changed to a formation that requires three centre-backs. Thus, these factors could lead to Mengi making the squad for the senior team, if not starting for them. Regardless, a loan move would be the sensible option if he wants consistent first-team minutes.
