Scott McTominay adds to injury troubles at Manchester United after returning from Scotland duty due to throat virus
According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United star, Scott McTominay has added to the club’s injury troubles after being sent back by Scotland due to a throat virus.
The 24-year-old has been in and out of the team this season. He missed the season opener and underwent surgery towards the end of August. Although he made a quick recovery, McTominay has not been as effective as last season.
The situation is so dire that United have only kept 2 clean sheets across all competitions this season. However, he has been effective for his national team. Last month, he scored his first goal for Scotland as he banged the winner in added time against Israel.
That victory got the UK-based nation a step closer to qualifying for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. But the midfielder will not be able to help his side seal qualification this month as he has been sent back after catching a throat virus.
The 28-time capped international was set to feature against Moldova on Friday, but Steve Clarke will have to find alternatives. However, this shall be a bigger blow to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The Red Devils already have a plethora of injuries to deal with.
Paul Pogba picked up a thigh injury during training with the French national team. He has been ruled out for nearly 10 weeks. Raphael Varane picked up an injury against Atalanta last week and shall be unavailable for a whole month.

Luke Shaw also withdrew from national duty as he stayed back to receive treatment for a head concussion. Edinson Cavani is also receiving treatment for a muscle issue. Thus, the last thing Solskjaer would have wanted was another player doubtful for the games after the break.
The Manchester-based outfit is set to face Watford, Villarreal, and Chelsea in the span of 10 days after the break, and the gaffer will have to ponder over his team selection in the coming week.
