Cristiano Ronaldo is tipped to invoke the third-year option in his current contract at Manchester United
According to SunSport (h/t Mirror), Cristiano Ronaldo could make the early decision to trigger the third-year option in his current contract at Manchester United which initially included a two-year deal.
The Portuguese star has aged like fine wine and keeps on getting better with age. He has been an instrumental part for the Red Devils this season in the attacking department. The 36-year-old has already scored 9 goals and provided 1 assist in 11 matches across all seasons for Manchester United this season.
His goal-scoring exploits have helped the Red Devils to maintain a respectable campaign in a season filled with glaring inconsistencies and lack of cohesion at the back. These issues in the backline were highlighted in their humiliating losses to Leicester City and Liverpool prior to their resolute victory against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League this season.
A SunSport source revealed his thought on the Cristiano saga and reiterated the love that the 36-year-old has for Manchester United and England:
“Cristiano has lived all over the world, but England has always held a special place in his heart. He loves the northwest and is looking to find a permanent base that he can call home after he retires from the game. Cristiano still believes he has at least two or three more years left playing, but he always has one eye on the future.”
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and a majority of the squad have come under heavy scrutiny for their inability to produce favourable results regularly. The Manchester-based team have relied heavily on Ronaldo and fellow Portuguese international, Bruno Fernandes, to get them out of tough situations.
Their new signings Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane have struggled to get going since their switch to Old Trafford. That being said the former Juventus forward has hit the ground running and is already having a substantial impact at Manchester United. Ronaldo agreed to a £6m pay cut to rejoin the Red Devils which goes to show the kind of affection he has for the club.

His impact on the field and dressing room has been quite evident. Another year of Cristiano Ronaldo at Old Trafford could be music to the ears of several supporters as well as pundits. Any news at this moment is only speculatory but given the circumstances, the Portuguese star could look to extend his stay at the red side of Manchester.
