Bruno Fernandes claims Manchester United are not on the same level as Manchester City
Speaking to BBC Sport (h/t Manchester Evening News), Bruno Fernandes has claimed that Manchester United are not on the same level as Manchester City after suffering a defeat in the derby at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils would have gone into the game with some optimism following their win over Tottenham Hotspur and ate fight back against Atalanta. All of that was ripped to tatters after Eric Bailly’s deflected clearance got City their first goal on the day before Bernardo Silva tapped in the second at the stroke of half-time.
Bruno Fernandes has been brilliant for the Red Devils this season, but even he could not do anything to stop the Etihad outfit from passing the ball through United’s lacklustre midfield line. There was a lack of intensity from the United players throughout the game. It was no surprise that there was utter silence inside the stadium during the dying embers of the match.
Fernandes claimed after the game that City are a level above United and have set high standards in the Premier League. The Portuguese told BBC Sport (h/t Manchester Evening News):
“They showed us today we are not at the same level. They played well; they don’t give you opportunities to win the ball off them so praise to them but (our) standards need to be raised.
The 26-year-old admits that Man United are some way off not just Man City but also other top teams. Given what we saw against Liverpool two weeks ago, that is an apt comparison indeed.
“At the moment, we are (far off the top teams). The demands on me and the players are going to be high, and we have to get back to what we started to look like. We have the players to do that.”

Something needs to change soon, and the international break might give the board and The Glazers a chance to think about what needs to be done. Such displays cannot continue if we are serious about lifting the biggest trophies again.
