Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes Manchester United have come too far to give up despite Liverpool defeat
Speaking to BBC journalist Shamoon Hafez (h/t Twitter/ Fabrizio Romano), Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes Manchester United are at ‘rock bottom’ but ‘too close to give up now’ despite poor performance against Liverpool.
The Norwegian has come under incredible pressure in recent weeks, but things seemed to turn around when they produced a thrilling comeback against Atalanta in mid-week.
However, that was not going to be the case on Sunday as Liverpool came to town and ripped the Old Trafford outfit to shreds. Naby Keita, Diogo Jota, and a hat-trick from Mo Salah ensured that United suffer one of the most humiliating defeats in their history.
The 48-year-old looked like a man in despair at the full-time whistle as he did not know what just hit him. While it was a gloomy performance, Solskjaer has not thrown in the towel yet and has reiterated that the club have come a long way and they cannot ‘give up’ now. He told BBC journalist Shamoon Hafez (h/t Twitter/ Fabrizio Romano):
“I have come too far, we have come too far as a group, and we are too close to give up now. We are at rock bottom; we cannot feel any worse than this”
Although the former United striker has steadied the ship in Manchester in the last three years, they are yet to win a trophy under his management and still look a far distance away from winning any silverware any time soon.

However, Tottenham Hotspur and Man City are yet to play them, and if the former Molde manager can pick up positive results against them, he could save his job at Old Trafford.
Regardless, only time will tell how long Solskjaer can stay at the club, especially after losing in such an embarrassing fashion to an arch-rival.
